Townhouse Security Systems Sydney
CCTV, Alarms & Video Intercom Designed for Sydney Townhouses
At Sydneywide Security, we design and install security systems built specifically for Sydney townhouses, from freestanding villa developments in the Sutherland Shire to strata townhouse complexes across the Inner West and Northern Beaches.
Townhouses have their own security challenges that neither standalone-house systems nor apartment setups fully solve: multi-level layouts with hidden entry points, shared party walls that limit where cameras and sensors can go, body corporate rules that dictate what you can install externally, and compact footprints that reward precise placement over volume.

Complete Townhouse Security Systems We Install

HD cameras positioned at front entry, garage, rear courtyard, and side access points. Discreet mounting that respects party walls and shallow townhouse eaves. Mobile app viewing so you can check the property from work or on holiday, with 30 to 90 days of cloud video storage for incident review.

See and speak to visitors before opening the door. Ideal for street-facing townhouse front doors where package theft is a concern, and for shared-driveway complexes where you don’t always recognise the person at the gate. Full mobile app integration so you can answer from anywhere.

Multi-zone alarm systems let you arm the downstairs at night while the family sleeps safely upstairs. Motion sensors on the stairs, window sensors on the upstairs bedrooms, panic buttons on both floors, and a keypad at the front door plus the top of the stairs so you can arm from bed.

Every alarm signal is verified within seconds by trained operators at our ASIAL Grade A1 Sydney monitoring centre. Licensed patrol response arrives fast, NSW Police are called for confirmed intrusions, and you receive a full incident report by email once it is resolved.
Why Townhouse Security Is Different from a House or Apartment
Multi-level layouts create hidden entry points
Upper floor windows, balconies, and roof access via shared attic spaces are common break-in paths that ground-floor cameras never see. Two-storey townhouses need alarm sensors and camera positions that account for the upper level.
Party walls limit external camera and sensor placement
Cable runs can’t cross shared walls without body corporate approval, some sensor positions are physically impossible on party walls, and cameras mounted on shared walls almost always need formal approval. We plan every installation around this constraint from day one.
Shared driveways carry unfamiliar foot traffic
Tradies, delivery drivers, neighbours’ visitors, and cleaners move through the shared driveway daily. Camera coverage of your garage and driveway is not optional in a townhouse complex.
Body corporate approval applies to external installations
Most Sydney strata-titled townhouses require notification (and sometimes formal by-law approval) for anything mounted on common walls or common property. We handle this for you as part of the standard install.
Modern developments and older townhouses need different approaches
Post-2015 townhouses often have Cat6 network cable already run to key wall points, so we can install a fully networked system in one day. Pre-2000 townhouses almost always need a wireless retrofit to avoid chasing cables through finished party walls.
Body Corporate & Strata Approval Handled for You
Most Sydney townhouses are strata-titled, which means installing external cameras or sensors on shared walls needs body corporate awareness and, in some cases, formal by-law approval. This paperwork is the single biggest reason townhouse owners delay their security installation, so we handle it for you as part of the standard install process.
- Review your strata by-laws before quoting, so we know exactly what needs approval.
- Draft the works notification letter for you to send to the body corporate.
- Design the installation to stay within your lot boundary wherever possible, which drops the approval requirement in most cases.
- Provide installation specifications and cable routing plans required for formal approval when needed.
- Use non-invasive mounting that doesn’t damage common walls or breach acoustic ratings.
- Coordinate directly with your strata manager if additional documentation is requested.

Two-Storey Townhouse Security: Designed for Multi-Level Living
Most Sydney townhouses are two-storey, which changes how alarms and sensors should be configured compared to a single-level home. We design multi-level townhouse alarm systems that let your family stay safe upstairs while the downstairs is monitored at night, without waking anyone with false alerts from the family cat.
- Home mode: arms downstairs zones only, so the family can move freely upstairs. Perfect for overnight.
- Away mode: arms every zone, including upstairs windows. For when the whole family is out.
- Motion detectors on the stairs and landing (the single most useful sensor position in any townhouse).
- Window sensors on all upstairs bedrooms (upstairs windows are often left unlocked when the family is home).
- Panic buttons in the master bedroom and downstairs, accessible from both levels within seconds.

Very happy
I spent about a month looking for certified installers in the Sydney area, most offered system + install (but mine was BYO), some didn't even get back to me (which is likely a good thing!). I even asked my friends and colleagues - none had any recent dealings with professional installers - well I KNOW who I will recommend to them now!
Professional, trustworthy and attentive, Sydneywide Security made this experience stress-free! Thanks guys!
highly recommend

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Moe recently visited my property to conduct repairs and servicing on our home security, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. He was professional, punctual, and extremely knowledgeable.
The repair process was seamless, with no unnecessary disruptions and he had no issues coming out a second time to address my concerns.
We then tasked them with upgrading our Intercom and Access Control systems, a major investment not only in terms of funds but also resources as accessing all units over a 4 week period was never going to be an easy task.
Under Chris’s leadership his installation team of Moe and Chris 2.0 did a stellar job assisting in wrangling access to all the apartments despite the language barriers due to the large number of non English speaking residents in our complex; including juggling the changing access needs that tenants imposed.
The systems were installed professionally, any issues were promptly sorted out and the project ran 100% to budget and timelines. We had zero complaints from owners and residents about the workmanship or workers on site which was very pleasing.
Overall as chairman of the OC I was very pleased with the outcome and would highly recommend Chris and his team to other apartment complexes for the installation and maintenance of intercom, access control and CCTV systems.
A single word of caution, and this is not directed to Chris or his team as it’s completely outside of their control or remit, these types of upgrades do require a significant time investment by the Owners Corporation, be mindful of this when budgeting and allow for additional schedule B costs from your strata manager.
Townhouse Security FAQs
Do I need body corporate approval to install security cameras on my Sydney townhouse?
In most cases, no. If we install within your lot boundary (on your walls, inside your eaves, on your own gate), approval is usually not required. External cameras mounted on common walls or common areas typically do need formal by-law approval. We check your strata by-laws before quoting and design the installation to avoid approval requirements wherever possible. When approval is needed, we handle the paperwork.
How many security cameras does a typical two-storey townhouse need?
Most Sydney two-storey townhouses need 4 to 6 cameras: front entry, garage or driveway, rear courtyard, side access, and (for two-storey townhouses with a balcony) an upstairs balcony camera. Smaller villa townhouses often work with 2 to 3 well-placed cameras. During the free on-site assessment, we count the positions that will actually make a difference for your specific layout.
Can I install a security system in an older townhouse without running new cables through the walls?
Yes. Wireless security systems are our standard recommendation for older townhouses. Cameras, alarm sensors, and the control panel all communicate wirelessly, so we avoid drilling through party walls or chasing new cabling through finished plasterwork. A wireless install typically completes in a single day, with no damage to shared walls or original architecture.
Will my townhouse alarm still work if the power or internet drops?
Yes. Every alarm system we install includes battery backup (typically 12 to 24 hours) and can communicate via cellular 4G if your internet drops. Back-to-base monitoring keeps working during power outages, so you’re still protected during blackouts and storms.
How much does a townhouse security system cost in Sydney?
Basic two-camera townhouse systems start from around $2,200 installed. Standard four-camera systems with alarm and video intercom typically sit between $3,800 and $6,500. Complete townhouse packages with full CCTV coverage, alarm, video intercom, and 24/7 monitoring range from $6,500 to $12,000. Every quote is fixed and itemised in writing after the free on-site assessment.
Do you install video doorbells for townhouses with street-facing front doors?
Yes, video doorbells are one of our most-requested townhouse installations. They work well for street-facing front doors where package theft is a concern, and they pair naturally with a standalone alarm system. For townhouses in strata complexes that already have a body corporate gate intercom, we install the video doorbell as a personal last-metre solution at your own front door.
Can you install security cameras that don't film into my neighbour's yard?
Yes. Camera field-of-view is one of the key parts of townhouse installation planning. Every camera is angled to cover your own property only, with digital masking applied to any part of the frame that overlaps a neighbour’s balcony, courtyard, or windows. This meets NSW privacy expectations and keeps neighbours (and body corporates) happy.
How long does a full townhouse security installation take?
A basic townhouse system installs in 1 day. A standard 4-camera setup with alarm and video intercom takes 1 to 2 days. Complete 6-camera installations that require body corporate approval typically complete in 2 to 3 days once approval is in place. We schedule the install around your work hours so daily life is barely interrupted.
